Brûléed Sweet Potatoes (Only 4 Ingredients!)

A simple sweet potato with a perfectly crisp, caramelized sugar topping

If you love sweet potatoes but want to switch things up, these Easy Brûléed Sweet Potatoes are a simple and delicious option. Sweet potatoes are a great source of fiber, vitamin A, and other important nutrients! Tender sweet potatoes are finished with a thin layer of brown sugar that caramelizes into a golden, crispy crust for the perfect combination of soft and crunchy! It mimics the idea of crème brûlée, one of my all-time favorite desserts!
This recipe is easy enough for a weeknight but feels special and "elevated" enough for a holiday meal or dinner with guests. With just a few simple ingredients and a quick trip under the broiler, you can transform an everyday sweet potato into a fun and impressive side dish. Feel free to make it your own by adding a few extra ingredients, such as cinnamon, nuts, or a sprinkle of your favorite spices!
Yield: 4 servings
Total time: 45 minutes
Ingredients:
2 sweet potatoes, washed and peeled
2 Tbsp butter, divided
salt to taste
4 tsp brown sugar
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 425°F. Slice each sweet potato in half lengthwise, creating four halves. Place the sweet potato halves cut-side up on a baking sheet.
Add ½ tablespoon of butter to the top of each sweet potato half and sprinkle with salt.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the edges are beginning to brown.
Remove the sweet potatoes from the oven. Set the oven to broil and carefully move the oven rack to the top position.
Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of brown sugar evenly over each sweet potato half, spreading it into a thin layer.
Place the sweet potatoes under the broiler and watch them closely to prevent burning. Broil for 2–3 minutes, or until the sugar has melted, caramelized, and formed a crispy, crunchy topping.
Enjoy!
Meal idea: I loved serving these potatoes with apple cider skillet chicken thighs (Recipe by Sally's Baking Addicition) and sautéed spinach with garlic. Such a delicious combination!
